Glitch text — also known as zalgo text, corrupted text, or cursed text — is created by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks on top of regular characters. Unicode includes hundreds of these marks (originally designed for languages that need accents, vowel marks, or tone indicators), and when you stack dozens of them on a single letter, the result overflows the normal line boundaries.
The visual effect resembles corrupted data, digital glitches, or creepy horror text. The name "zalgo" comes from a 2009 internet creepypasta meme about a dark entity named Zalgo who corrupts everything he touches. The phrase "he comes" written in corrupted text became the signature zalgo meme.
